Ive done my fair share of uni and made it in my old field. Environmental science. I just finished week 1 of fashion because it was the most hands on degree I could find in Melbourne. LCI offers industry relevant lecturers. Guest lecturers. Teaches you how to apply your skills in creative ways. Think. The program focuses more on what you can do. Rather than give you 5mintues on a 1million machine you will never be able to use to establish yourself. I'm learning to print with wood I think for example. I always wanted to work in the creative industry but struggled with “imposter syndrome” and felt I needed a solid portfolio and skill set to launch my creative career. I did quite a bit of research on where I wanted to study and I couldn’t go past all the student reviews of Shillington. The full time short term course was also ideal for my situation. The reviews were so accurate. It really is a super challenging but rewarding experience. I’m still blown away with how much I learned in that time and the standard of work I produced coming out of the course.
I attended Shillington College of Graphic Design at the Sydney campus in a full time capacity which was an exciting decision for me. I completely did a 180 from working full time after many years to studying full time. I was unsure of how it would all turn out but looking back can advise it was well worth diving in and meeting liked minded new friends and enter a new community. We all quickly discovered how hard we would work but it saw us produce a large variety of creative and fun projects. We had fun always along the way and learned so much from each other as we all had different abilities and it was truly wonderful to discover different methods and techniques and evolve our designs in a supportive environment. Prior to Shillington, I was a bit lost and stressed about what I was going to do with this little life of mine. Shillington was the best 3 months of my life, and after that 3 months, it only took a few weeks of job hunting to land one. It would suck to be chasing one of those careers where you have to spend 4+ years at uni, and it’s so good that at Shillington, you can be equipped with all the skills you need to get a full time job in design in just 12 weeks. I’ve spent almost 2 years out of Shillington in the workforce and I can honestly say I’ve not struggled once with technical skills. I discovered design while working in real estate where I was teaching myself my way through a junior role. Was looking to study graphic design to fill the gaps in my knowledge and give myself more confidence in what I was doing but Shillington gave me so much more than that. Shillington was the best money I've ever spent on myself, it actually changed my life. I'm now working in a design studio and I can safely say I love my job, I've definitely found what I'm meant to be doing. Turning up to class in person, the staff were always a delight. My time at Shillington was unreal. The course takes you on a whirlwind ride and plunges you straight into feeling like you're working in a design studio. My teachers Sam, Missy, Karin and Tim were genuinely amazing designers already, so their knowledge and expertise is real-world and relevant. I'd recommend the course at Shillington to anyone who wants to switch careers into design. Shillington's handling of the impacts of COVID-19 and ensuring the transition to digital learning was as smooth as possible is testament to their recognition as a world class institution.
Very happy with my choice!!! I find really easy to study if there is a good environment, with good vibes, good teacher, good tools. More than everything, the atmosphere is so familiar, everybody is always ready to listen or help you, from the management, to the people who work there and the students. After one year, I got a Diploma of Screen and Media. I'm so happy 'cause while I was studying I learnt heaps of new creative stuff useful in my career as graphic designer and scriptwriter. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere in class, I've been lucky to have a great teacher as well as a awesome student assistant during all time! Definitely, a great experience!!!
